There's no clock in the dojo
When the training gets tough or Sensei is pushing a little beyond what’s comfortable it’s tempting to check how much time is left before it ends. This is human nature but a distraction. I decided a while ago never to look at the clock again and my training improved. Sensei sometimes asks ‘What time is it?’ and the right answer is ‘Now!’, or ‘What’s the most important technique?' and the answer is ‘The one we’re doing now!’. If you stay in the moment you can focus on what you’re doing and concentrate on doing it better. In sparring the timekeeper will let you know when you can stop. In a real-life fight there are no clocks.
