TESTING

The purpose of the belt system is to indicate seniority and experience, while giving easily-identified goals and rewards - the goal is to reach the higher standard, the belt is the reward. All applicants require an acceptable level of attendance building up to their test, and the approval of their instructor, signifying respect and effort in the Dojo.

Students progress through White, Blue, Yellow, Green and Brown belt before being eligible to test for Black belt. Tests are held locally in April, August and December. Tests to Black belt can be held on courses with Kancho Ninomiya.

The tests are short and sharp. We test the results of training, not just the process. Students are expected to show skill, power and fighting spirit. Careless mistakes and/or a lack of effort are not acceptable. In all cases applications must be submitted one month beforehand so progress can be assessed.
