Enshin is intense functional training . Technical skills and strategy are practised with focussed repetition, becoming faster, smoother, more powerful and finally instinctive. This takes time and effort, but rising to the challenge is one of the main benefits of training, as it simultaneously improves fitness, focus and mental toughness. The final goals of training are: Powerful and effective skills for combat or self-protection. Physical fitness and resilience. A strong fighting spirit. |

| Training in the Dojo is reinforced by time a student spends studying outside. This can be practising the techniques learned in the dojo or working on your general fitness. Advice on supplementary training is always available, for instance using kettlebells: | |

Background reading on Karate and martial arts is also motivating and beneficial. I am often asked which books students should buy for self study and general training advice. I heartily recommend you start with these: Essential reading for Enshin karate students: Sabaki Method – Kancho Ninomiya My Journey in Karate – Kancho Ninomiya For Stretching: Stretching Scientifically – Tom Kurz For Tournament preparation / advanced conditioning: Infinite Intensity – Ross Enamait Angry White Pyjamas: An Oxford Poet Trains with the Tokyo Riot Police - Robert Twigger (Please note: I’m recommending these books because I’ve practised what they contain and feel stronger, looser and more knowledgeable as a result.
